So that everyone can find a cross-country trail ideally suited to their abilities, all routes are signposted with a special guide system. Apart from information regarding direction, trail length and trail speed it also shows the exact stages in kilometres. In this way, all cross-country skiers can check for themselves that they are sticking to their individual speed and pulse targets, as often specified by medical check-ups.
INTRODUCTION LISTED BY TYPE OF USE
Cross-country ski trail for classic technique:
- Groomed cross-country ski trail set with tracks on flat as well as ascending and descending terrain that is to be followed in a straight line and on descending slopes with turns, but only in those track sections where the groomed track does not pose a danger for the skiers. With the exception of ascent and descent sections these tracks for classic technique may only be used when striding straight ahead with the skis remaining in parallel.

Cross-country ski trail for skate technique:
- Groomed smooth cross-country ski trail. Notes: cross-country ski trails for skate technique may be skied on using any technique.

Easy cross-country ski trail (signposted in blue):

Predominantly flat cross-country trail with ascents and descent sections of no more than 10 % gradient (except for a few short pitches). The descent sections for cross-country ski trails for classic technique must be visible in their entire length and may not comprise any bends that would force the cross-country skier to actively change direction.
Medium cross-country ski trail (signposted in red):

Cross-country ski trail in predominantly in hilly terrain with ascent and descent sections of no more than 20% gradient (except for a few short pitches). The descent sections for cross-country ski trails may comprise bends that will force the cross-country skier to actively change direction.
Difficult cross-country ski trail (signposted in black):
- Cross-country ski trail with ascent and descent gradients over and above the limit of medium cross-country ski trails.
