TYROLEAN SCHNAPPS ROUTE
Distilling schnapps is a century-old tradition in Tyrol. Tyrolean distillers have become famous across the county’s borders due to their hard work, dedication and great knowledge of this cultural heritage The Tyrolean schnapps route offers a unique opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of these regional distilleries. Discover secrets of the art of distilling first-hand and philosophise with the distiller himself during a tasting session. Note: these delicacies are high in alcohol content.
Hannes Gabl and his father distill twenty varieties of fine schnapps, some liqueur varieties and their own creation of a cider – a highly wholesome mix of cider and apple juice. With their first class schnapps they won the Tyrolean distiller championships twice and were once selected as national winners of Austria. Father and son love to share their passion with visitors. The large farm distillery can accommodate 60 guests. This journey of aromas starts with fruity Williams pear schnapps, on to the velvety and harmonious taste of plum schnapps and ends in the unique aroma of the “Zirm” – stone pine schnapps. Here too, the aim of capturing the fruit’s fragrance into the glass has been successfully achieved. The stone pine is the queen of the alps: its pleasant soft fragrance surrounds nature fans when climbing up through the stone pine forests and its essential oils are evidently beneficial to health and well-being. Hannes Gabl harvests his stone pine cones from his own forest and the distilling process takes several individual steps. He also produces stone pine liqueur. Both have a woody-resinous aroma and ooze warmth and energy.
