Piller Moor

Piller Moor is right next to the Nature Park Centre. It is one of Europe’s most beautiful hill moors and is home to a unique flora and fauna with more than 1,000 butterfly species. Piller Moor is completely accessible for wheelchairs and a great destination for a day trip. The Nature Park becomes tangible thanks to its comprehensive summer programme. Nature park guides take visitors on culinary herbal walks, professional nature photographers offer photo safaris into the world of alpine ibexes and on volunteering days the survival of this fantastic natural landscape can be ensured by taking care of it in a joint effort.

Accessible moor: pioneering Kaunergrat Nature Park

Piller moor at Kaunergrat Nature Park has been completely wheelchair accessible since 2014, the first of its kind in all of central Europe. Over a distance of 700 metres, driveable larch wood bridges guide visitors through this unique habitat created during the last ice age. More than 150 flower and moss species including especially rare and protected species, flourish here. Take in the natural beauty from two viewing platforms. Kaunergrat Nature Park is regarded as a trailblazer and was awarded the first prize by the Austrian ministry of tourism in the “accessible travel” category. Visitors can hire wheelchairs suitable for mountainous terrain and also additional wheelchair pulling equipment, the so called Swiss-Tracs that can easily overcome any variance in altitude if required. Kaunergrat Nature park stretches over a total of ca. 60,000 hectares and includes all levels of altitudinal diversification of the Alps – from the sun-kissed slopes of the Inn river valley with more than 1,000 butterfly species and 500 plants, all the way up to the prominent three thousand metre peaks of Pitztal and Kaunertal. If you wish, you can take part in volunteering projects and gain insight into the life of mountain farmers and park rangers. Or how about a photo workshop with flora and fauna as models? Meanwhile, Kaunergrat Nature Park Centre tempts visitors with a time-line journey through earth’s history and excitingly presented background information (this too is completely wheelchair accessible) Nature parc Kaunergart
