Mountain safety

Mountain safety

Information regarding appropriate behaviour on mountains

Your safety during your mountain experience and the protection of our unique nature and environment are particularly important to us. That is why we have put together a few guidance notes and tips:

Basic hiking equipment

Sturdy shoes – with grip sole
First Aid Kit
Mobile phone with fully charged battery (please note: network coverage) Winter: Carry your mobile phone close to your body (use inside pocket) as the battery will last longer if it is kept warm
Sun protection (sunscreen, sun glasses)
Warm clothes, water and wind proof jacket (layered clothing)
Sufficient drink and food supplies
Hiking map, GPS device etc.
Weather app for your mobile, for example “Morecast”
Backpack

Behaviour in case of emergencies

Try to stay calm
Call for help: mobile phone, shouting, whistling etc.
Tend to injured people, stay at the accident scene but outside any hazardous area
Never leave injured people!
Behaviour during a storm: avoid exposed and dangerous places (summits, ridges, fixed-rope routes, individual trees etc.) – look for shelter, for example a mountain hut or in the car!

Emergency call

Mountain rescue – Alpine 140
European emercency call 112 (works with any mobile and in any available)

No network coverage:

Emergency calls are not possible without network coverage. Change to a better location and regularly try to dial 112 (or use the SOS emergency call function on your mobile).

1. Who is reporting/ call back number?
2. Where is the exact accident location?
3. What happened?
4. How many people are injured?
5. Weather situation at accident scene?
