This “Queen’s stage” is the same route to the Kreuzjochspitze as described in the “Kreuzjoch circuit” but then follows along the Venet ridge via the Wannejöchl, the Glanderspitze and almost to the top station of the Venet mountain railway. Once there, follow a path to the catered mountain huts Gogles Alm, Galflun and Larcher Alms and on to the Venet Alm. Return to your starting point via the same path as on your way up. The Large Venet circuit passes four summit crosses and four catered mountain huts – making this circuit an extra special experience.
Wildgrat Trail

Run from the intermediate station via a path past the alpine pasture Kalbenalm towards the summit Sechszeiger. Folow from the mountain ridge towards Hochzeiger and by the Niederjöchl turn left and run downhill to the junction towards the alpine pasture Erlangerhütte. Past the Hinterer Sea Lake on your right. Follow the markings uphill in the direction of Wildgrat. The trail on this uphill cross boulder section is marked by red dots. Follow the markings all the way to the ridge. Once there you have the option to run on to the Wildgrat summit cross, but please note that you have to be surefooted and unafraid of heights in order to do this! Otherwise, follow the markings downhill in the direction of the intermediate station past the Großsee Lake on your left. At the next fork you have the option to run via the Hochzeiger summit or via the Obere and Untere Goaßsteig to the Zollkreuz (option to return to intermediate station). At the Zollkreuz junction continue to run in the direction of Zollberg (2.225m). From then on, it’s all downhill via a single trail to the forest road until you reach the valley lift station in Liss.
Stage without summit – Day 4: Vari. III Piösmes – Mandarfen

Starting point district Piösmes: Go back to Scheibe and then follow a forest road, then a steep forest path until you reach the catered mountain hut Arzler Alm. Afterwards follow a wide forest road for ca. 1 kilometre until you are beneath the Rappenkopf summit, then turn off onto a steep trail in a southerly direction. Follow this uphill trail until you reach another fork after approximately 500 metres and again turn in a southerly direction. Here the high-level trail, built in 2012 starts, which will remain on approximately the same level between 2,000 m and 2,400m beneath the Seirlöcherkogel summit and in the direction of Neururer Berg. Along this section there are several fantastic viewing points in the direction of Mandarfen or the Mittagskogel summit and Pitztal’s glaciers. After a walking time of approximately 4 hours you will reach Neururer Berg mountain and then follow a shaded forest trail downhill towards Trenkwald. Follow the signposts to Plangeroß via the Pitztal Bike trail. And then follow the valley hiking trail to Mandarfen.
E5 Zams - Braunschweiger Hütte

Take the Venetbahn gondola up the first section and then follow the path to the first summit, the so called Glanderspitze. Once there, continue hiking along the ridge across the Wannejöchl until you reach the Kreuzjoch. Follow the path downhill in the direction of the catered mountain hut Larcher Alm. When the path joins a forest road turn left to Larcher Alm, which is an ideal stop for some refreshments. Continue hiking along the so called alter Almweg (old trail) past the Winkl hamlet to the village centre of Wenns. From there, catch the public bus to Mittelberg Wendestelle [turning bay] bus stop. Follow the agricultural road in the direction of the catered mountain hut Gletscherstube for the last 1,000 metres in altitude. The road then leads to a steep path up to the catered mountain hut Braunschweiger Hütte. You have reached your destination for the day!
Circular route to summit Wallfahrtsjöchl

Cross the road at the Gasthof Liesele pub in Eggenstall and walk along the continuously steep agricultural road to Neubergalm mountain hut. Then continue on a very steep but well signposted path to Sturzmahd and the Sturzmahd ridge and then further upwards to the Wallfahrtsjöchl peak. Once there, enjoy magnificent panoramic views of the Pitztal valley below and far beyond its borders.
CAUTION: the path up to the Wallfahrtsjöchl is very difficult and is often covered in snowfields. We only advise experienced mountaineers to attempt this route and we recommend a direct descent route to the Sturzmahd saddle via a well-signposted steep trail leading to the Tiefentalalm mountain hut. From this catered mountain hut you can return via the agricultural road back down to St Leonhard/Eggenstall.

We only advise experienced mountaineers to attempt this route and we recommend a direct descent route to the Sturzmahd saddle via a well-signposted steep trail leading to the Tiefentalalm mountain hut. Stage with summit – Day 4: Vari. III Piösmes - Mandarfen

Starting point district Piösmes: Go back to Scheibe and then follow a forest road, then a steep forest path until you reach the catered mountain hut Arzler Alm. After approximately 100 metres in altitude you will reach the Rappenkopf peak, where you will be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views. After the descent from the peak, a path forks off in a southerly direction. Follow this uphill trail until you reach another fork after approximately 500 metres and again turn in a southerly direction. Here the high-level trail, built in 2012 starts, which will remain on approximately the same level between 2,000 m and 2,400m beneath the Seirlöcherkogel summit and in the direction of Neururer Berg. Along this section there are several fantastic viewing points in the direction of Mandarfen or the Mittagskogel summit and Pitztal’s glaciers. After a walking time of approximately 4 hours you will reach Neururer Berg mountain and then follow a shaded forest trail downhill towards Trenkwald. Stage without summit – Day 3: Wiese – Piösmes

Starting point Wiese: Approximately 100 metres before the hamlet Wiese, follow the agricultural road to the
catered mountain hut Söllbergalm. Once there, a trail leads on through larch and pine forests on a continuously steep trail in the direction of Lake Brechsee. After a 30 minute walk, turn off in the direction of Stallkogel – Mauchele Alm. Then you will come across a newly built, moderately steep trail starting at the catered mountain hut Mauchele Alm. After following the red road markings for approximately 500 metres turn left and walk uphill across rocky terrain towards the catered mountain hut Neubergalm. (Please note that you will have to be sure-footed and unafraid of heights for this section! However, you will be rewarded with beautiful views of the valley). After Neubergalm, a shaded trail leads through mixed woodland to the beautifully set catered mountain hut Tiefentalalm. Then you can choose to return on a trail via Wald or via the agricultural road past the viewing platform of the “Gschwandbach” waterfall towards Scheibe. The agricultural road in Scheibe takes you back to Piösmes.

E5 Venet circular trail variant

For all those who wish to master the E5 without using any public transport or mountain railways the hike starts at the valley station of Venetbahn gondola in Zams. Ascend to the top station of Venethbahn following the Ladner Steig trail. Once there, follow the panoramic trail to the catered mountain hut Gogles Alm at 2,017 metres above sea level. Continue on the path behind the hut towards the catered mountain hut Galflun Alm. Once there, descend to the catered mountain hut Larcher Alm and continue along the so called alter Almweg [old mountain hut trail]. This trail passes the hamlet of Winkl and leads to the village centre of Wenns, which is your destination for this day.
E5 Zams - Piller

Take Venetbahn gondola up the first section of the hike and then follow the panoramic path to the catered mountain hut Gogles Alm. Once there, follow the steep path behind the hut and continue to the catered mountain hut Galfun Alm. Once there, descend in the direction of Piller.
Stage without summit – Day 5: Mandarfen – Mandarfen

Starting point Mandarfen: The trail leads through the Hirschtal valley up to Lake Rifflsee. Once there, follow the high-level trail signposted as “Offenbacher Höhenweg” . Keep an eye out for a fork and the Lake Plodersee signpost and then follow a continuously steep trail up to Lake Plodersee. Once there, follow the “Fuldaer” high-level trail, which is moderately steep, sometimes up and sometimes down. Cross several streams until you reach the only critical point of this trail – the “Vordere Köpfl”. There are rocky and steep sections to master here, however, the path is safely secured with steel ropes and can be accomplished as long as you are surefooted. From then on it is a steady downhill climb to the cirque [Kar] and then a little further uphill to the catered mountain hut Taschachhaus. Catch a fantastic glimpse of the Taschach glacier world from a viewing point on the mountain’s crest just above the mountain hut. It is advisable to return via the moderately steep agricultural road to the Taschach Alm mountain hut and then further on to Mandarfen.
