Winter hiking in Kaunergrat Nature Park - Pitztal

There are several marked winter hiking routes to be discovered at Kaunergrat Nature in Pitztal. Enjoy the landscape covered in deep snow and take in the panoramic views with tall and mighty peaks all around. The beautiful Harber pond circular route can be started straight from the car park of the Nature Park Centre. Here, the thrilling viewing platform, Gacher Blick invites guests to discover impressive insights into the region’s natural and cultural history. This makes for a perfect starting or end point of your winter hike!

Winter hiking to a catered mountain hut

The alpine pastures of the catered mountain hut Gogles Alm offer breath-taking scenery in winter too! Take in the wonderful panoramic views of the surrounding snowy mountain scenery from the hut’s terrace. Gogles Alm is open and awaits with regional delicacies on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during the winter months. Enjoy your well-earned reward after an ascent of 500 metres to this mountain hut!

Snow hikes along a cross-country ski trail

Winter hikes can come into their own on a 21 kilometre long cross-country ski trail along the valley connecting Mittelberg to Wiese in St Leonhard. Experience the enchanting atmosphere of this authentic winter adventure hiking through snow-covered meadows, forests  and roof-tops. You can access this winter hiking trail at every hamlet along the municipality of St Leonhard.

Go on a wonderful circular hiking route in the ski resort

A walk on the Zirben trail is an ideal alternative to skiing at Hochzeiger ski resort. The starting point of this 700 metre long winter hiking route is Zeigerrestaurant at Hochzeiger intermediate station. In winter you can also take a walk from there to the Stalderhütte or Hochzeigerhaus (hiking time ca. 30 – 40 minutes, approximately 1.5 kilometres).

On Pitztal Glacier you can take a short, ca. 10 minute walk to the Chapel of the White Light from the top station of the Glacier Express.

A circular walk around the snowy Lake Rifflsee is perfect at Rifflsee ski resort.

Circular route Plangeroß

Vom Ausgangspunkt wandern Sie talauswärts dem Gehsteig der L16 bis zum Orts Ende entlang. Anschließend folgen Sie rechts dem präparierten Winterwanderweg bis nach Weißwald. Achtung: Sie müssen einmal die Landesstraße überqueren. From the starting point walk out of the valley along the L16 until the end of the village Plangeroß. Continue on the well groomed winter hiking trail to Weisswald. Attention: You have to cross the road L16. The sport and spa hotel Seppl is the first opportunity to take a break on this route. Cross the bridge on the left in front of the hotel and then hike back in the direction of Plangeross. Then cross the L16 country road and turn left to return to Plangeross and Hotel Sonnblick. The last few metres to the starting point are along the pavement. In Plangeross, Bergwerk restaurant is a comfortable place to take a break.

Zirben Trail

Thiscircular winter hiking trail starts and ends at theZeigerrestaurant at the intermediate station of the Hochzeiger gondola. The approx. 700 m long hike leads in the direction of Zollberg through a pine forest and returns to the intermediate station. The first opportunity to have a break is the Zeigerrestaurant and the catered mountain hut Tanzalm  which is equally inviting is only a few minutes' walk. 

Circular route Scheibe - Piösmes

Starting point is the bus stop Piösmes-Scheibe. From there, walk out of the valley in the direction of the pub Gasthof zur Einkehr. Then cross the bridge and turn left and follow the groomed winter hiking trail into the valley to Piösmes and then continue to Stillebach. After crossing the bridge in Stillebach you can take a break at Grünzeug restaurant at the organic Hotel Stillebach. Refreshed, you can continue to walk back to Piösmes on the other side of Pitze river. At the end of Piösmes, cross the bridge and hike back on the same route to your starting point. In Scheibe Gasthof-Restaurant offers another opportunity for a break. 

Naturparkhaus - Piller/Fuchsmoos

You can get to the Nature Park House at Gachenblick by car or comfortably with the cross-country skiing and winter hiking bus (see timetable) (arrival at 11:12 a.m.) and hike to Fuchsmoos. The groomed ca. 2.5 m wide winter hiking trail (depending on snow conditions) leads in several loops through Piller forest and passes a deer feeding area. We kindly ask to be quiet and respectful in this specially designated area so that the deer is not disturbed while grazing. In Fuchsmoos you get back on the winter hiking bus at 3:19 p.m. and drive back to the starting point. The approximate walking time of this 8 km long winter hiking trail is 2 hours, so there is still ample time in advance to explore the area around the Nature Park House.

From the car park Fuchsmoos walk for approx. 50 m along the Pillerstraße road in the direction of PIller. Then turn left to Fuchsmoos and continue to Jausestation Fischteich Piller. After a pub stop continue refreshed on the road down to Oberpiller. Once there, follow the Pillerstrasse road for approx. 500 m on the right to return to your starting point.

Starting at the Galtwiesen car park follow a road past the Jausenstation Waldeck to the hamlet of Krabichl in Leins. Hiking time: 45 minutes return. The Jausenstation is a perfect place for a refreshment stop on your return.

Walk for approx. 200 m along the tarmac road from the starting point towards the playground. Just before the playground turn right onto a farm and forest road in the diretion of Osterstein. Walk through the estate and via the Diemersteig path back to the starting point. Tip: Turn off in the direction of the village on the Diemersteig path to reach the village centre of Arzl with two optional refreshments stop within minutes (Restaurant Herz As and Pizzeria Die Post).

Winter hike along the Rifflsee cross-country ski trail

Once you have arrived at the starting point, take in the beautiful view of Rifflsee mountain lake before setting out. This easy winter hike follows the outline of the Rifflsee cross-country ski trail past Rifflsee Lake, covered in snow crystals. Sunna Alm catered mountain hut is located at the starting point and offers an inviting and cozy opportunity to have a break. Another optional stop for refreshments is Rifflseehütte, located just a few minutes' walk from Rifflsee Lake. Please note that hikers will require a valid ski lift pass or hiking lift pass for the gondola ride.
 

Circular route Fuchsmoos

From Fuchsmoos bus stop or car park this hike follows groomed trails past Piller Pond and pretty soon into a forest, which usually looks very wintry as it is on the shady side of the valley.  After ca. 1.5 km cross Piller country road and after another 1.5 km you will reach Jausenstation Fischteich Piller (fish pond restaurant). Here you can enjoy ice skating or stop at the cozy restaurant for a drink or snack. Behind the Jausenstation Fischteich Piller the path leads through the hamlet of Fuchsmoos back to the starting point.

‘Sechszeiger Panoramawalk’ winter hiking circuit at 2,400 m

Even in winter, pedestrians can take the Sechszeiger double chairlift up and down the mountain during operating hours from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm uphill and downhill. An approx. 2.1 km long winter hiking trail is marked out on the Sechszeiger, which starts at the mountain station of the double chairlift and runs towards the Sechszeiger cross and back again. A marvellous panoramic view of the Inn and Gurgl valleys as far as the Zugspitze awaits. The ascent and descent for winter hikers and pedestrians (gondola lift and Sechszeiger double chairlift) costs EUR 33.00 for adults and EUR 23.00 for children.

Pine trail: circular winter walk 

Winter hiking at Hochzeiger in Pitztal is closely connected to the pine. The pine, also known as the “Queen of the Alps”, is a high-alpine tree. It is said to promote well-being and have harmonizing properties. Some pine trees can be up to 700 years old. There are very beautiful pine forests at Hochzeiger in Pitztal.

The pine trail circular winter hike leads trough a beautiful pine forest with views of the sun-kissed ski slopes at Hochzeiger. The starting point of this winter hike is the Zeigerrestaurant at the intermediate station. The winter hike (approximately 700 m long) follows a path in the direction of Zollberg through a pine forest and ends at the Zeigerrestaurant at the intermediate station. You can enjoy the impressive panoramic views from the viewing platform of the twelve metre high pine cone adventure tower. Single trip tickets are available for winter hikers and walkers at the gondola ticket office. The Zeigerrestaurant is particularly inviting.

Winter hike from the intermediate station to the bottom station

There is a sun-kissed winter hiking trail with panoramic views that starts at Hochzeiger intermediate station, then on to the mountain huts Tanzalm, and then further on to the Stalderhütte or Hochzeigerhaus. The starting point for this winter hike (with numerous options for a break at the mountain huts) is the mountain station of the gondola at 2,000 metres. It is only a few metres to the Tanzalm and the Hochzeigerhaus or Stadlerhütte are only about 1,500 metres further away. Take a leisurely stroll back to the intermediate station and spare your knees by taking the gondola back down to the bottom station. Or continue to walk to the hamlet of Kaitanger (car park at Hochzeiger mountain railways) from the Hochzeigerhaus or Stadlerhütte. This section of the walk will take approximately an hour.

First you take a panoramic mountain gondola ride while indulging in the magnificent mountain world of the Pitztal Alps. On a lovely hiking tour towards the snow-covered Rifflsee mountain lake or Rifflseehütte you inhale the crisp and clean Alpine air, accompanied by uninterrupted vistas of 3,000 m high summits.
