Start
Wiese (1187m)
Finish
Piösmes (1404m)
Starting point Wiese: Approximately 100 metres before the hamlet Wiese, follow the agricultural road to the
catered mountain hut Söllbergalm. Once there, a trail leads on through larch and pine forests on a continuously steep trail in the direction of Lake Brechsee. After a 30 minute walk, turn off in the direction of Stallkogel – Mauchele Alm. Then you will come across a newly built, moderately steep trail starting at the catered mountain hut Mauchele Alm. After following the red road markings for approximately 500 metres turn left and walk uphill across rocky terrain towards the catered mountain hut Neubergalm. (Please note that you will have to be sure-footed and unafraid of heights for this section! However, you will be rewarded with beautiful views of the valley). After Neubergalm, a shaded trail leads through mixed woodland to the beautifully set catered mountain hut Tiefentalalm. From the idyllic setting of the Tiefentalalm, the trail continues across the Gschwandt stream. It then leads up to the Kreuzjoch peak, from where you gaze at the peaks around you with the beautiful Pitztal Geigenkamm ridge in front of you. At first the trail continues steeply and then more gently down past the catered mountain hut Arzler Alm towards Scheibe. The agricultural road in Scheibe takes you back to Piösmes.

Hochzeiger Ultra circuit

Start
Valley station (1467m)
Finish
Valley station (1466m)
This is a long and difficult trail. From the valley station in Liss run along the tarmac road to Kaitanger. Once there, the trail follows along the Adlerweg [Eagle trail] to the catered mountain hut LeinerAlpe. From there, follow the steep trail to Sechszeiger, passing a pond on your left hand side until you reach the Niederjöchl. Then follow an uneven single trail uphill until you reach the fork in the direction of the catered mountain hut Erlanger Hütte. This is followed by a downhill section of approximately 300 metres in altitude passing the Hinterer Sea Lake on your right hand side. Then follow the markings uphill in the direction of Wildgrat. The trail on this uphill cross boulder section is marked by red dots. Follow the markings all the way to the ridge. Once there you have the option to run on to the Wildgrat summit cross, but please note that you have to be surefooted and unafraid of heights in order to do this! Otherwise follow the markings downhill in the direction of the intermediate station past the Großsee Lake on your left. At the next fork you have the option to run via the Hochzeiger summit and along the ridge downhill to Zollkreuz. At the Zollkreuz junction continue to run in the direction of Zollberg (2.225m). From then on it’s downhill all the way via a single trail to the forest road until you reach the valley lift station in Liss.

Mainzer Höhenweg (high-level trail)

Start
car park between Plangeroß andWeißwald (1601m)
Finish
bus stop Mittelberg (1732m)
From the starting point you walk on the well-prepared track to the catered mountain hut Rüsselsheimer Hütte. After the hut, turn right towards the Weissmaurachsee lake. The track is moderately steep at first, then becomes a steeper climb as you follow on up to the Weissmaurachjoch. Walk on to the southern Puitkogelferner Glacier and over two further Glaciers to the Rheinlandpfalz-Biwak (bivouac). Please note that mountaineers require crampons at the Wassertalkogel. On a partially steep trail continue via the Wurmsitzkogel summit to the Polleskogel summit. Next, climb up to the Pitztaler Jöchl peak and then descend to the catered mountain hut Braunschweiger Hütte. On the way to the Glaciers there are partially secured via ferrate.

Please note that the Mainzer Höhenweg is a high Alpine route. Mountaineers must be confidently sure-footed to master the rock ledge terrain, require grade II rock climbing abilities and good orientation skills. Be sure to not underestimate the length of this trek. As this trek crosses Glaciers, appropriate equipment and advanced mountaineering experience are essential.

After the descent from the peak, a path forks off in a southerly direction. Follow this uphill trail until you reach another fork after approximately 500 metres and again turn in a southerly direction.
