Walk along the forest road from the car park to the catered mountain huts Larcher Alm (1.5 hrs) Galfun Alm (2 hrs). Continue to walk for approx. 1 h on a steep path to reach the catered mountain hut Gogles Alm. Once there, a slightly steeper path forks off towards the Venet peak that can be reached within 2 hrs. Continue further on an easy walk along the mountain ridge of the Venet, which affords fantastic panoramic views of the upper Inntal, Gurgltal and Pitztal v alleys and the lower Inntal valley all the way down to Telfs. Walk for approx. 2.5 hrs to reach the catered mountain hut Venetalm. It takes approximately another hour to reach the catered mountain hut Puitalm am Plattenrain and another 1.5 hrs to return to your starting point in Audershof. Each ‘alm’ is very inviting should you wish to take a rest and if you wish to break up your hike you may also stay overnight at the Galfun-, Larcher-, Venet- or Puitalm am Plattenrain.
Stage with summit – Day 1: Arzl – Wenns

Starting point: Arzl – from the church a trail meanders uphill towards the hamlet of Arzlair. Walking through meadows and a forest the trail leads on to the catered mountain hut Plattenrainalm. Once there you can take in the panoramic views of the Inn valley and visit the meditation chapel to let your thoughts wander. A slightly steeper trail leads up to the catered mountain hut Hochastner Alm. After that continue along the mountain ridge on a beautiful forest path directly to the catered mountain hut Venetalm (Follow the signposts “Venet Rundwanderweg” [circular hiking trail]). Then continue via a trail boasting magnificent panoramic views of the upper Inn-, Gurgl- and Pitz valleys as well as the lower Inn valley towards Telfs towards “Wannejoch”. Once there a steep trail leads up to the catered mountain hut Galflunhütte. Continue to hike along a forest road to the catered mountain hut Larcheralm. Past this hut an old trail “alter Almweg” leads down to “Larchach”. Then follow the tarmac road back to the centre of Wenns.
E5 Piller – Verpeilhütte

This long and demanding stage starts at Piller. Hike in the direction of Fuchsmoos and further on to the hamlet of Lachwies. Just before you reach the houses, a narrow path forks off to the left and leads to the catered mountain hut Aifner Alm within approximately 2.5 hours. It crosses several forest roads. Once there, continue hiking along the panoramic trail in a southern direction enjoying magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. For the next 2 hours approximately you will stay on an altitude between 2,000 and 2,200 metres until you reach the catered mountain hut Falkaunsalm. From there, a high route, the so called Dr Angerer Höhenweg will take you to the catered mountain hut Gallrutt Alm within ca. 1 hour. Remain on this route, which will now get more strenuous and exposed. After another 3.5 hours of hiking you will reach the catered mountain hut Verpeilhütte as your destination for the day.
Venet circular route

Starting point: Plattenrainalm. From there walk in the direction of the catered mountain hut Venetalm (approx. 2 hrs). Continue further over the mountain ridge of the Venet, which affords fantastic panoramic vistas of the upper Inn valley, the Gurgltal and Pitztal valleys as well as the lower Inn valley all the way down to Telfs. After approx. 2 hrs you will reach Venet, where the path forks off in the direction of the cate red mountain hut Goglesalm. The three catered mountain huts Goglesalm, Galflunalm and Larcheralm each offer opportunities for a well-earned refreshment pit-stop. You may also wish to stay overnight on the Galflunalm or the Larcheralm. Continue your hike (possibly on the following day) in the direction of Audershof (approx. 1 hr walking distance from the
Larcheralm). After another 1.5 hrs you will return to your starting point at Plattenrainalm.

Stage without summit – Day 4: Vari. I Piösmes – Plangeroß

Starting point district Piösmes: Go back to Scheibe and then follow a forest road, then a steep forest path for 1.5 hours until you reach the catered mountain hut. This is the first and only optional food station of this day’s tour. Then follow a wide forest road for ca. 1 km until you are beneath the Rappenkopf summit, then turn off onto a steep trail in a Southerly direction. Follow this uphill trail until you reach another fork after approximately 500 metres and again turn in a southerly direction. Here a high-level trail built in 2012 starts, which will remain on approximately the same level between 2,000 m and 2,400m beneath the Seirlöcherkogel summit and in the direction of Neururer Berg summit. Along this section there are several fantastic viewing points in the direction of Mandarfen or the Mittagskogel summit and Pitztal’s glaciers. After approximately 4 hours walking time you will reach the Neururer Berg mountain and cross the Seebach brook via a wooden bridge. Then follow a trail in a southerly direction until you reach Lake Mittelberglsee at 2,446 metres. Once there, continue on a slightly sloping trail that is secured with ropes in the direction of Karlesegg (leads to the high-level trail “Cottbuser Höhenweg”). Then hike via the catered mountain hut Plangeroßer Alm to Plangeroß.
Stage with summit – Day 3: Wiese - Piösmes

Starting point Wiese: Approximately 100 metres before the hamlet Wiese, follow the agricultural road to the
catered mountain hut Söllbergalm. Once there, a trail leads on through larch and pine forests on a continuously steep trail in the direction of Lake Brechsee. After a 30 minute walk, turn off in the direction of Stallkogel – Mauchele Alm. Then you will come across a newly built, moderately steep trail starting at the catered mountain hut Mauchele Alm. After following the red road markings for approximately 500 metres turn left and walk uphill across rocky terrain towards the catered mountain hut Neubergalm. (Please note that you will have to be sure-footed and unafraid of heights for this section! However, you will be rewarded with beautiful views of the valley). After Neubergalm, a shaded trail leads through mixed woodland to the beautifully set catered mountain hut Tiefentalalm. From the idyllic setting of the Tiefentalalm, the trail continues across the Gschwandt stream. It then leads up to the Kreuzjoch peak, from where you gaze at the peaks around you with the beautiful Pitztal Geigenkamm ridge in front of you. At first the trail continues steeply and then more gently down past the catered mountain hut Arzler Alm towards Scheibe.The agricultural road in Scheibe takes you back to Piösmes.

Mainzer Höhenweg (high-level trail)

From the starting point you walk on the well-prepared track to the catered mountain hut Rüsselsheimer Hütte. After the hut, turn right towards the Weissmaurachsee lake. The track is moderately steep at first, then becomes a steeper climb as you follow on up to the Weissmaurachjoch. Walk on to the southern Puitkogelferner Glacier and over two further Glaciers to the Rheinlandpfalz-Biwak (bivouac). Please note that mountaineers require crampons at the Wassertalkogel. On a partially steep trail continue via the Wurmsitzkogel summit to the Polleskogel summit. Next, climb up to the Pitztaler Jöchl peak and then descend to the catered mountain hut Braunschweiger Hütte. On the way to the Glaciers there are partially secured via ferrate.
Please note that the Mainzer Höhenweg is a high Alpine route. Mountaineers must be confidently sure-footed to master the rock ledge terrain, require grade II rock climbing abilities and good orientation skills. Be sure to not underestimate the length of this trek. As this trek crosses Glaciers, appropriate equipment and advanced mountaineering experience are essential.
Please note that the Mainzer Höhenweg is a high Alpine route.
